ABBE, a history Born with an enterprising spirit, Mr. Alain Dufresne always desired of creating his own company. In 1989, he created Abbe Plastique and the company has always been under his direction. Why call his enterprise Abbe Plastique? The principal reason is a very personal one. Since infancy, Mr. Dufresne has had severe problems with his eyesight. Fortunately, after 2 operations he found a suitable vision. This was the result of research done by Ernst Abbe (1840-1905) a brilliant German Mathematician and Physicist who made several of the most important contributions to the design of lenses for optical microscopy. Dr. Abbe’s research on the optic nerve has revolutionized microscopes worldwide. ABBE Plastique was a basement enterprise which started with an array of bathroom accessories in acrylic consisting of 18 pieces. He presented his product and the collection grew into success. Afterwards, custom-made products became the main strength of the company. The humble beginning of 200 square feet in a basement has grown to a building of more than 15,000 square feet specialising not only in the area of plastics but innovation in metalwork, lighting, thermoforming and our very own paint room.
